In any business, the hardest part can often be when the time comes to collect payment from customers. This is especially an issue with coach hire companies as they are often dealing with very large amounts of money for each trip they complete.

This is why it is important for coach hire companies to get paid before they do the job, or on completion of the job. This is not always possible as the customers may not be willing to hand over the total amount of the coach hire before the actual event, as they may get to the end of the night and be unhappy with the service and want their money back.

However, when it does get to the end of the night and the time comes for the passengers to make their final payment, they are generally outside their house, not in the office of the coach hire company and so the coach chauffeur may have to accept a cheque as the final payment, as the passengers are also unwilling to carry large amounts of cash.

This can then lead to cheques bouncing and the coach hire company not getting their payment. So while each party needs to protect themselves, there is often little middle ground on which to do this.

This is why wireless credit card processors seemed to be the way to go as the chauffeur could simply swipe the passenger’s credit card at the end of the night and know straight away if the payment was approved, and at the same time the passenger doesn’t have to carry around large amounts of cash.

However, in the past, wireless credit card processors have been very expensive for coach hire companies to operate. During the course of 2006 however, Total Merchant Services began offering a free wireless credit card terminal to start up a relationship with businesses such as coach hire and taxi drivers.

Like with any new product or service, it is no good if it doesn’t suit you or your business, but credit card facilities in coaches seems like a great middle ground.
